There are many pieces of abdominal exercise equipment that you can use to tone up your abs, or work on that 6 pack. There is the Stability Ball, the BOSU, the Ab Wheel, Kettlebells, Dumbbells, the Captain’s Chair, the Ab Roller and the Cable Crossover Machine for Cable Crunches. Each abdominal exercise equipment is useful. Then again, you don’t have to use any equipment either, and still get an excellent abdominal workout.

The abdominals are like any other muscle group. They need 24 hours to rest and recover. So it’s best to work your abs every other day.

The Stability Ball and BOSU are pieces of equipment that are not just used for abs. You can work onanother ab ex on ball other body parts or muscle groups while sitting on the Stability Ball or standing on the BOSU. This makes other body part workouts more intense and ALSO works the abs simultaneously, because of the unstable surface each piece of equipment offers.

Now the Ab Wheel is a piece of abdominal exercise equipment, specifically designed to work the abs.using ab wheel You want to be on your knees and hold onto each handle. Bring the belly button to your spine, and roll the wheel as far forward as possible. Engage the abs and using the abdominal muscles, roll the wheel back toward your knees. Repeat for 10 reps.

Don’t be discouraged when you first start this exercise, as you may not be able to roll as far forward as you would like. That will come with time, as the abs keep getting stronger.

Using the Captain’s Chair, the piece of apparatus, that you step up into, and lean against the back and holding on to the handles, targets all of the abdominal muscles. I have seen some Captain’s Chairs without a back, which makes the exercise much more intense!

Hold onto the handles, engage the abs, and lift both legs up to your chest. Having bent knees will be easier than extending the legs forward. Shoot for at least 20 repetitions, for 2-3 sets. Then, bend the knees and bring the knees up to the right side, so you are crunching the obliques. Then switch, and work on the left obliques. Try 10-12 repetitions on each side.

Another abdominal exercise you could use is utilizing 1 kettlebell. The kettlebell could be replaced by 1girl kb windmill dumbbell if needed. You’ll want to sit on the floor, knees bent, feet on the floor. Hold the kettlebell (KB) in both hands and rotate the body to the right, tapping the KB on the floor, slightly behind your hips. Then rotate immediately to the left side and tap the KB behind the hip. Keep rotating from side to side, for a total of 10 repetitions on each side, for 3 sets. You will feel the burn! Use a decent size KB, maybe starting at 10 pounds.

You can use the cable crossovers as abdominal exercise equipment. Use the tricep rope attachment on top of the machine. Set your weight. Pull the rope down, as you kneel on the floor/mat facing the weights. Stay kneeling and pull the rope, using the abs, to bring it to your knees and exhaling. Control the weight ascable crunch end you sit up and inhale, exhale and pull rope toward the knees. Repeat this exercise at least 12 reps, for 2-3 sets.

Please remember, whatever abdominal exercise equipment you choose with weights, the heavier the weight, the bigger the abs will grow. Most of us don’t want to thicken our waists. So don’t feel like you have to constantly increase your weight with abs. When you are at the desired weight, then it’s time to switch to a different ab exercise and come back after 4-6 weeks.

If you have a partner, you could use a Medicine Ball (MB). Sit on the floor, have your partner roll the MB toward you. Pick up the MB, rotate to the side, and throw the ball back to your partner. Then do the same thing on the other side for 10 reps. Another great oblique exercise for you!
